Good and durable big wall lead line
« on: September 23, 2019, 06:21:18 AM »
Hi folks!

I'm in the process of getting a new lead rope, mainly for aid climbing/ big wall stuff. I was wondering what are your favorite choices? My last one was good (10mm unicore Beal) but I was wondering what are your best picks?

Hi tomcanac, there are others here who could offer a more informed opinion but of the 10+mm ropes I have had (Sterling, Beal, Edelweiss, Edelrid), the Beal unicore, (67g/m) seemed by far the most durable. It's sheath (2x2 pic) held up incredibly well, no slippage and its handling remained almost the same over its life. I guess the construction of the rope plays a bigger role than the manufacturer? Good luck

Maxim Platinum 9.8.

Best big wall rope I have ever used.  I have taken them on 4-6 week expeditions and brought them home because they were still in good shape. unheard of...

Hey David,

With that review, it seems like this could be great for free as well.  Thanks, will look at that for my next big wall rope for next season.

I just saw  a Fb comment recommending this https://www.mytendon.com/en/tendon-hattrick-10-2-red/p-408/
Never heard of them before.
Its got a double sheath design and interesting core. "SECURE technology  offers less UIAA falls (5)  but has much larger sheath"
with virtually no sheath slippage.
Looks real bombproof but wonder how it handles etc in 'real life' ?

Apparently this particular model is now discontinued...
