Ventilator design?

My sister asked me about ventilator designs.  Here are some thoughts.
I believe the theory is that pneumonia does not prevent lungs from taking air, just that there’s not much air in liquid. So the idea is to artificially raise air pressure in lungs.

Also, WHO has provided specific guidelines for ventilation. I don’t have a copy of that but it probably wouldn’t be hard to find. The summary says:
Recommended tidal volume is 4-8 ml/kg, and inspiration pressures less than 30 cm H2O.
